Most of us probably agree that the worst era for fashions was the 1970's. An abundance of polyester, much of it in shades of baby blue and pea green, is the stuff nightmares are made of. But what's your favorite? Although it all happened before I was born, I absolutely love 1950's clothes. Think gorgeous Grace Kelly with her full satin skirts, a veiled hat and perfect pumps. I have wanted to dress just like the future princess ever since I saw the classic film "Rear Window." So stylish and effortless in her yards of silky fabric - to me, the epitome of glamour. And Audrey Hepburn, with her hair pulled back, a black wool dress and huge sunglasses. I love the beautiful fabrics, cinched waists, tiny belts, collared dresses. Lana Turner wore those impeccably tailored wool suits with the impossibly straight skirts. They carried perfect leather handbags, and always wore gloves. Every lady had a good strand of pearls and a drawer full of silk stockings and slips. They all had - or wanted - a polka dotted halter dress . For evening, the long beautiful velvet gowns were so sultry without being too revealing. Think Ava Gardner or Rita Hayworth in a red ruffled number. Yes, I did miss that era, but through the miracle of old movie reruns, I can indulge my fantasy. And maybe Fred Astaire can even dance me around the living room.
