So this time of year is tricky for me. I feel like I can give my self permission to shop - Christmas shopping that is. As a shopaholic this can be challenging because I love finding new goodies. But the best part is that once I find a nice little treat, I can usually talk myself into sharing it instead of keeping it all to myself. My recent find is this lip gloss collection. These are minis so they are super convenient to pack in a party purse. ~ Cathy

I normally wear nude, tan, brown, or bronze shades of eye shadow. They are safe, and predictable. Yet, at times... perhaps a little boring? For a fun night out, I sometimes like selecting a dark blue to jazz things up. I don't go crazy with it, but just use one of the MAC brands that offers a velvety smooth finish. Skip anything with frost options as they are oh so aging. ~ Cathy
One of the key things to making your makeup, especially your eye shadow pop, is the ability to properly highlight the area under the brow. In days past, there was this garish shimmery white potion that women would often use right under their brow area to finish off their eye makeup. But thankfully, other options are now available that look much more natural and achieve a far better end result. While there are several products that tackle this area, I am most impressed with Jentry Kelley's Brow Lift. No shimmer, but just the perfect crème glow to give your brows the illusion of being lifted in an oh so subtle way. ~ Cathy

Yes, almost! I have written about this before, but this product deserves an encore plus a standing ovation! Ladies... this little jewel brightens and lightens dark circles as well as highlights areas that need a bit of love.
Many colors from which to choose. And any of the YSL counter folks can match your skin with the best color of their product. ~ Cathy
I love trying new products, don't you? I went to Sephora last week with a friend and found a fabulous brow product. Benefit has always been a go-to brand for me and this is definitely one I will highly recommend. It adds volume to my annoyingly thin brows and takes only a few seconds to apply. Give it a try and let us know what you think! ~ Cathy

Not so much if you are in the Houston area, but aren't you really tired of your summer makeup looks? I love to switch things up when the seasons change, but it can be quite pricey to start all over so I am always on the lookout for good deals. And check these out! They are very budget friendly! I have been hearing very good things about NYX cosmetics and the ones I've tried have been winners all!

Yes, the calendar may announce September's arrival, but it's still blazing hot and humid here. Fall weather is a long time away. We've posted about this product before, but I love it so much I thought it deserved an encore appearance. Just spray this on your face and you will quickly notice a smoother, cooler and more hydrated complexion. It smells divine too! ~ Cathy

As we look ahead into fall and note the upcoming fashion and makeup trends, it's pretty obvious that a fullish groomed eyebrow is definitely a look that is not going away anytime soon. I don't know about you, but my brows have taken a downward dive in the past few years. They were once too bushy and needed frequent plucking, but too often I actually overdid it with the tweezers and now I am left with not only thinning brows, but also with brows that are too far apart. Trying to grow in the over plucked areas takes forever. Solution? Go to a professional. I went to a lady at a salon nearby and she recommended shaping as well as dying my brows. The result was amazing! It is now much easier for me to groom my brows and definitely speeds up my morning routing. This photo is not me (unfortunately!) but this look is here to stay for a while. If you get your hair colored, it is super easy to have the salon also color/tint your brows. You won't believe how much this helps! ~ Cathy

I'm always on the lookout for a new lip gloss or makeup line in general. My boss has mentioned Julep a few times and when I checked it out, I was hooked! The lip gloss is stellar, with a fabulous array of colors and priced decently too! I love the nail polish selections with their super cool packaging. And as an added bonus, it is free of harmful chemicals. Have you tried Julep? ~ Cathy

Do you have a love of lipstick? Do you have a big box in your bathroom where keep a vast assortment of varieties and colors? I sure do! I like trying different brands and experimenting with colors all the time. While I do enjoy the luxe brands, I am always delighted when I find one that is super cheap and looks great! Here is a favorite. ~ Cathy

Did you see my post on Jentry Kelley's make up line? Well, if you haven't snapped up one of the key products in getting the best look possible-primer, then this is for you! Primer is key in providing a smooth and flawless canvas to enhance one's complexion. ~ Cathy.
Hope y'all are having a great start to your 4th July! Check out these photos from some fun I had at a makeup lesson recently. The first picture is me before, the second is 3 of us after our lesson :) In the lesson we actually did the applying. We used our stuff & the lady showed us how to create certain looks. Yvonne (white top) & I (blue top) went with more of an evening look, & Lynne (pink top) picked a day look. Looks a bit out of place with our casual clothes on but I don't think it looks too bad for our first day at beauty school! The lady teaching us was great: http://www.laleurre.com/
After viewing the video that Jentry Kelley did recently with Houston news anchor Dominique Sachse, I booked an appointment to try Jentry's line of cosmetics. It was a very fun and actually very educational experience. Jentry was not available on the day I was free to check out her line so I was set up with one of her makeup artists, Marissa Broom. Marissa was super sweet, knowledgeable and really knew great techniques in makeup application.
Here are a few things I learned during my lesson:
1. Primer is a must. I have always discounted using this product, but after trying Jentry's line applied with a makeup brush, I am a believer. It made a tremendous difference in the ultimate outcome of my finished look.
2. Powder blush is not the enemy. I have not used that product in many years. Instead, I have favored crème blush since I thought it imparted a more flattering outcome. But with the application of the powder blush on top of a setting powder, my blush lasted all day and looked entirely natural.
3. My eyebrows were much more flattered with a powder that is far lighter than the one I had been using. Apply the powder with a firm slanted brush started at the bottom of the brow and then brushing up and out.
4. Bronzer can look natural. With Marissa's expert application, the bronzer she selected for me looked really good.
5. And this is the hardest lesson of all for me to put into everyday practice... no eyeliner nor mascara on the bottom lashes. I am a huge fan of lots of eyeliner and a smoky eye of sorts for day and an even smokier one for night. But as Marissa explained, that technique is very aging. If one (that would be me) insists on having some definition on the lower eyelashes, then a medium dark powder applied with a stiff brush using a very light hand is okay.
Here are a few of the products I bought and am really loving. To learn more about Jentry Kelley cosmetics or to set up a makeup lesson: www.jentrykelleycosmetics.com
Don't you love when you find a super cool new product that delivers and is oh so cheap! I found this one recently and with the hot weather upon us, I am a believer.
Dewy Finish = A Youthful Glow. What's not to love? ~ Cathy.
I don't know about you, but I am always on the search for certain products. A great foundation, eye crème, mascara...And when I find the "one", I am always thrilled, well at least for a while. This little product does a bang up job as an eye liner. It glides on effortlessly and stays in place. All sorts of colors to choose from to create a very natural look up to a glamorous cat eye. It's a winner! ~ Cathy.

It's a new season, so time for a new look! Our winter makeup is looking a little dark and tired, so consider some new colors to perk things up. I scored a Lancôme free gift with purchase, and can't wait to try these new eye shadows. Nice ladies at makeup counters everywhere are happy to help you update your makeup routine and put you in a spring mood! ~ Pat.
Okay, I have tried...and tried.. and... well, you get the idea. I have tried many foundations - more than I can even count. Sometimes, I give the drug store options a shot and for a while, I am almost sold. But there always seems to be something not quite right. Trying to match skin tone to a sealed bottle is extremely difficult so there's that for starters. While I firmly believe that there are fantastic low cost cosmetics out there that work really well for many situations, there is nothing like a lux foundation to set the tone for your entire make up routine. My favorite is this one. It's worth the price. Really. ~ Cathy.
Recently, I have noticed that the best new lip colors are going in the direction of more peachy nudes than very bright colors. Not that bright pinks and reds are out of the picture, but with the continued popularity of the smoky eye, a more subtle lip is really pretty for spring.
Here are three great options, including one from the very affordable Rimmel London lipstick line designed by model extraordinaire Kate Moss. Pucker up! ~ Cathy.
Are you always on the search for the "best" of some type of product? I know I am and I try brand after brand of cosmetics looking for one that I can stick with for the long haul. I have bought mascaras that run the gamut from the economical Maybelline to the pricey Chanel and have had good luck with many of them, but when I tried the Benefit option, I was really impressed. More mature ladies actually do benefit from a lengthening formula to enhance their lashes than one that plumps them up. Va va voom! ~ Cathy.
It's Rodeo time in Houston! So whether you live here or wherever, it seems like this time of year really gears up. While all well and good and certainly loads of fun, extra social outings can leave us with dreaded dark circles. And while there are a myriad of products to cover them up, they often accentuate lines and creases on the under eye area. I recently was turned on to this product that promises to keep creases at bay. It takes some getting use to, but I am happy with it so far. ~ Cathy.
I recently attended a free makeup lesson at a local plastic surgeon's med spa. I heard some great tips and tricks - I've been applying my concealer using my fingers when I should be using a small brush! These are fun events and it's probably time to update your look, right? I purchased some new Jane Iredale makeup and feel ready for a beautiful spring season. ~ Pat.
I don't know about you, but this time of year, I seem to constantly deal with chapped lips. Sure, there are lip balms out there galore, but they often look very waxy and/or don't offer any pretty colors. But putting a regular lipstick or gloss over chapped and peeling lips results in a fairly hideous look. I just came across a new Bobbi Brown product that addresses my lip concerns. I like that it comes in natural colors that basically moisturize and look sharp. They really do a great job. ~ Cathy.
It has been ages since I have used powder eye shadow as part of my makeup routine. Once I discovered crème shadow along with crème blush, I jumped on board and rarely ever choose powder options. But whatever eye shadow version you use, the most important tip in keeping your lids crease-free is to wear a primer product. It definitely works to keep all the makeup in its place and lasts for many hours. A must have! ~ Cathy.
I have been very lazy about using makeup brushes. I so often grab an old implement to use or worst, just use my fingers. Every time I have gotten my makeup done by a professional, I have noticed a huge improvement in the outcome after they used the proper brushes. Finally, I caved in and started using brushes. At first, I took so much longer than my haphazard way, but eventually, it got easier and I could tell a big difference. This selection not only looks and works good, but packs well for travel. ~ Cathy.
I have always used liquid foundation. My few attempts at pressed powder foundation have not been successful. A friend introduced me to Rodan + Fields mineral makeup and I love it! It is so weightless on your skin, yet still provides a nice light coverage. No greasy feeling after a long day either. Check it out! ~ Pat.
