Parties, Open Houses, Holiday events - what to wear? My standard party uniform consists of black pants and tank top, with rotating jackets and sweaters. It's an easy look to pull off and is appropriate for the Symphony as well as house parties or the office shindig. I have a couple of sequined jackets to up my game, and a sparkly sweater or two for more casual outings. With all the hustle and bustle this time of year, don't stop to worry about what to wear! Pants from Talbots, Worth New York jacket and Stella & Dot jewelry. Stay festive ~ Pat
Mercifully, the temperatures are at last cooling down around here. For weeks, even though the calendar said it was "Fall", the weather was anything but. Trying to find clothing that was agreeable to temps in the 90s while not looking like your were still stuck in summer wear has been challenging. But now finally, one can begin to embrace some new additions to their wardrobe. And I think this sleeveless top with leather pants is such a fun pick for a night out on the town. Definitely not summer attire, but a sleek look that would be great topped with a fitted jacket for cooler evenings. ~ Cathy

Is there a glamourous event coming up on your social calendar? Feeling bold? I saw this killer cocktail dress and I couldn't resist sharing it on this page. And I am thrilled to see more elegant and strappy shoes that don't come with sky-high heels. Question... Is this a look you could see yourself wearing or not? How do you handle dressing up for special events? It would be great to see some of your favorite dress-up looks. Please share here if you like. ~ Cathy

I always feel that once Labor Day has come and gone the social season really gears up. Many more parties, charity events, and of course the art and music scene gets into full swing about this time of year. Green is going to be a huge color in many ensembles this fall. I came across this gorgeous frock and could instantly see myself swishing into the theater or symphony event with a pair of fabulous black dressy sandals. Are you looking forward to dressing up more this fall? ~ Cathy

So here in Houston we are still in the throes of a very hot summer. On that note, we have been showcasing a number of white dress options, and I just came across this winner. It really caught my eye as I am a sucker for crochet dresses. This one features a black underlay and a removable collar. It looks very crisp, fresh and inviting. Wouldn't these black patent Tory Burch flat sandals polish it off nicely? ~ Cathy

I spotted this great dress from the Worth New York fall collection and it brought me back to some 60's styles that I loved. Sleeveless, swingy, and with a geometric pattern, this would be a perfect work-to-evening dress. Poppy red is a huge color this fall, and you can never go wrong with black and white. Everything old really is new again! ~ Pat

That's what we thought! But in the fashion world, mid August means the start of Fall Fashion Season. Pat Boland and I took in our first show that was put on at Tootsies by the women's networking group Ellevate. Gorgeous outfits from various designers were worn by stunning models.Designers included: #rebeccataylor #milly #Dianevonfurstenberg #normakamali #blackhalo
Choosing an outfit to wear to any fashion show is always a bit challenging. You want to look current and stylish but summery dresses don't seem quite right for such an event. Pat and I both ended up wearing fitted black pants with flowey blouses and strappy black heels as we mentally shoped for new fall ensembles. ~ Cathy

I am loving all the comfy and cool wide leg pants this season. They are a nice alternative to sundresses or shorts and can be dressed up or down from day to evening. Throw on a lightweight top, some sandals and silver jewelry, and you're good to go anywhere! ~ Pat.
I am a sucker for lace dresses. They always seem to be in fashion and range from sexy to demure. There is always a lace dress to be had for virtually any occasion. This one is just divine. So lady-like, yet it has a cool edge that keeps it from being too sweet. And the white shoes? Until recently, I would not have dared to wear white shoes with a black dress, but I have gotten intrigued by this look and am ready to give it a whirl! How about you? ~ Cathy.
So you are invited to another holiday party and want to break out of your little black dress routine. But what do you choose instead? Personally, I am just wild about this cool embellished chiffon top. I love the intricate detailing and the unusual design. This would be a real show stopper when worn with a pair of fitted black pants or a pencil shirt. Toss on a pair of pointy toe heels and you are good to go. ~ Cathy.
