In the spirit of Halloween Weekend, I dug up this photo from the Spirits and Skeletons Event at the Houston Museum of Natural Science last year. Are you dressing up this year? And what was your favorite costume ever? ~ Cathy.
I love to travel, and one of my favorite places to visit is England. This pic was taken in Bath on my honeymoon in 1987. It was mid-May, still chilly and rainy, but it was wonderful. Bath is a beautiful city with such an interesting and rich history. Here I am at the Roman Baths. No matter where you wander, I wish you happy travels! ~ Pat.
...but since here in Houston, it is not remotely cool enough for boots and tights on a regular basis, what is the solution for pasty legs in order to wear dresses and skirts sans any type of hosiery? I posted about this product a while back, but I think it is definitely worth a revisit. Sally Hansen makes a spray that is like foundation for your legs. It creates a smooth look and also adds a bit of color. The way I use it is to shave my legs very carefully, then apply a liberal amount of lotion, then an oil spray and wait for a bit. Once all of this moisture has soaked in well, then I spray the product onto my hands and quickly rub it on my legs. But be careful...wash your hands immediately and watch where you direct the nozzle as it can spray beyond where you intended. The good thing is that it washes off when you are ready to remove it. It is one of my favs...~ Cathy.
Remember to stop and smell the roses, enjoy a sunset, and savor times with friends and family. Hope you have a simply awesome Tuesday. ~ Pat.

When I'm going out for a Saturday afternoon with the ladies I like to make an effort but I also want to be comfortable. Take a nice, long line blouse, skinny jeans, booties, & finish with a great necklace & purse. I love soft colors such as this blush blouse by Ann Taylor Loft. ~ Andrea.
It's festival season! And one of the biggest ones around most cities is the Renaissance Festival. My friend, Stephanie Stewart-Howard, is showcasing one of her own creations. Doesn't she look divine? Stephanie is a Nashville journalist, costume designer and medieval re-enactor with the SCA and other living history groups including Iron Age Celts and Viking era. She is a regular contributor to Renaissance Magazine and other publications. ~ Cathy.
I love this photo of my grandmother and her beautiful hat. She worked in New York City as a hat maker when she first came to this country, so I'd like to think she made it herself. Be inspired by the wonderful gals who paved the way for us to wear whatever we choose. Happy Thursday ~ Pat.
So, the eyes are the very first place to show one's age, right? Without resorting to some kind of drastic measures, what is a gal to do in order to freshen up that key area? These eye patches have been an amazing addition to my beauty arsenal. They are so easy to slap on after refrigerating them for a bit. They really, really make a difference. ~ Cathy.
When relaxing with friends you want to be comfortable but that doesn't mean you can't stay stylish. Here I am wearing the most comfortable clothes: stretch skinny jeans, semi loose fit t, and some comfy booties. I finished it off with a simple necklace & bracelet & I had a very enjoyable - & comfortable - evening :) ~ Andrea.
Great, easy outfit for dinner with the ladies: black jeggings or skinny jeans, a pretty top, & a pair of easy to wear booties. As the top has the lace detail on it keep the jewelry around the neck area minimal, here I just wore earrings & a bracelet. Finish the look with a lightweight moto style jacket. ~ Andrea.
Andrea at a Houston Women's Chamber of Commerce event. Terrible hotel lighting! but the classic combination of a fine knit sweater tucked into a pencil skirt always looks good. She wore a sweater with some detail on the front and back, and finished off with some booties, to give it a more modern feel. Both the sweater and the skirt are by WORTH New York.
I have a fabulous friend in Nashville, who is a gifted and talented published writer as well as a gal with a strong fashion sense. We trade our newest finds back and forth pretty often. Here is her latest treasure - this Sturdy satchel bag is a hand stitched dream. ~ Cathy.

This 1970's relic is worth repeating. As flower girl and junior bridesmaid, my sister and I were quite the stylish pair. The hats definitely complete the outfit, don't you think? ~ Pat.
Do you like to mix up your scents or stick with the same one? I often find a favorite one and enjoy wearing it, but after a while, I am ready for a new one. Here is a wonderful and very refreshing scent that is just different enough to be memorable, but not jarring. I love the lavender, orchid, honey and amber mixture. It is just lovely and not crazy expensive. ~ Cathy.
Add a red purse, scarf or tank top. It works with black or brown, navy, tan or white. A red sports car will work too! ~ Pat.
Why? They look good with almost anything: jeans, pants, skirts, dresses... & they come in a variety of materials: leather, faux leather, denim, cotton, fleece... You're sure to find one you like! ~ Andrea.
After spending a few days getting over a cold, I got bored, so I decided to tackle that job I've been putting off forever: the closet clean out! I have to admit my closet has got very disorganized and it was beginning to irritate me. My basic rule was that if I hadn't worn it in a year (with the exception of special occasion dresses), or if it simply wasn't my style anymore (something I bought say 10 years ago), then it went! The large pile of clothes here is all those that are in good shape; there was an another pile of items that are in bad shape so they will head to recycling. I'll admit, I haven't yet got to stage 2 of this process: putting the clothes and shoes I have left into a more organized order, but with a lot less items it's already much easier to see what I have! The hardest part of the process, apart from mustering the will to do it!, was getting over any emotional ties - funny how we can get so attached to our clothes and shoes?! Next time I have to do this I may just call in a professional as I know they will be much more objective about the whole thing. Overall though, I have to say the process is very therapeutic :) ~ Andrea.
I admit it... black and cream dresses make me happy! I found this oh so chic zippered number and am seriously loving it. How easy is it to grab a dress, slip on some sleek patent pumps and seize the day?! ~ Cathy.

It should be obvious now that the gals at Asbury Lane Style are a bit nostalgic for the days when people in the U.S. actually dressed up. Remember when ladies wore dresses, stockings, high heels - and even a corsage? How fun that would be to put on a special outfit and have your significant other hand you a box with a flower pin to wear.
Appearances are important. Put your best foot forward today and make a great impression! Happy Thursday ~ Pat.
For us makeup junkies, finding a good looking cosmetic bag to stash in our purses can be a bit of a challenge. You want one with style, but paying out big bucks for a bag that is bound to get stained is not the best answer. So what to do? Keep an eye out for a durable, but well priced option that can be thrown in the washer every now and then. I like this one from DVF. Anything animal print will get me excited! And lips are going bold this fall. How do you like this bright pink version? ~ Cathy.

I recently attended a luncheon, and won the door prize donated by Tutu Cute clothing and accessories. It's a red knit headband with a big jewel piece on the front. I am not much of a hat person, and have certainly never worn anything like this. It did make me think that as gals of a certain age, it's perfectly OK to go out of our comfort zone and wear something new and different. I mean, why not? We have only ourselves to impress. When cold weather hits, look for me - I will be wearing a red headband - and a smile. ;-) ~ Pat.
This is one way I wear mine: neutral colors & keep everything else simple. Add a moto style jacket to finish off the look. ~ Andrea.
One thing I really look forward to as the weather cools is the fact that I get to pull out all those items that are red. I'm talking about both bright & bold reds through to rich dark reds such as burgundy. The colors make us feel warm & you can pair them with black jeans, blue jeans, winter white trousers.... ~ Andrea.
