Here is Andrea out & about on a hot & humid Houston summer's day. This dress is a great option for the weather because it is not too fitted & the cerise pink color is perfect for this time of year. She finished it off with a simple necklace, bracelet & metallic silver sandals.
I am a sucker for black and white dresses. If you were to look in my closet, you would see more of this color scheme than any other. In recent months, I have made an effort to branch out and I have incorporated bunches of florals into my wardrobe. I love them, but I must confess my go-to look is a black and white dress, just like this one. I keep coming across the ModCloth line and here is one I definitely love. The sandals are exactly what I would choose for this look. How about you? What are your favorite colors to wear? ~ Cathy.
I am curious Asbury Lane Style followers... how do you all dress when kicking back? I have a habit of wearing my yoga or workout type attire when heading out on Saturday, no matter if I worked out or not. Unless I have big plans during the day on the weekend, I basically just roll out of bed and upon leaving the house, I throw on a my get up. Then I put on the tiniest bit of makeup and now that I have short hair, I put it up in a headband or sometimes-wear a cap. My Haviana flip flops are my go-to footwear in the summer.
I like this look as it has served me well most of the time. And I may or may not get around to working out, but at least I'm ready if the mood strikes (as long as I have workout shoes handy). But...I must confess something... This is not the best look if you want to get top service. I find that I want to be more or less anonymous and definitely am not on my game when I go this route. Isn't it always the case when you look a bit shabby, you run into someone that makes you want to hide?
To experiment, last Saturday, I went the extra mile. I got properly fixed up and took on the day. Cute casual outfit, hair nicely styles, makeup....check! It made a big difference. People were much more eager to wait on me and there was a noticeable improvement in the level of service. It was not exactly a revelation because I am a huge supporter of dressing up nicely to fly for this very reason. The slobs I see at the airport make me shudder in their house shoes, pajama pants, over sized shirts and hoodies. While I will never give up my yoga attire every time I am out and about on the weekends, my lazy outfits will be slightly less desirable for a full day of running around the city. How do you dress when not at work? ~ Cathy.
Just yesterday, I popped in Nordstrom for a new lip color. I had heard about Charlotte Tilbury's line and was anxious to check it out. I don't know about you, but I do love the classic look of a smokey eye paired with a nude lip. I can handle the smokey eye part well enough, but the nude lip?... No so well. I always feel like a nude lip makes me look... well.. dead. Not so great, right? But... this color paired, more importantly with this Laura Mercier lip liner in Hazelnut tea is a winner! Let me know what you think. ~ Cathy.
Ever since I started browsing for versatile dresses, this olive one keeps popping up. I think it is a sign! Buying it today and pairing it with this layered gold tone necklace and these snake skin sandals. Are you also a fan of snake skin shoes? ~ Cathy.
So it seems wedding season is still in high gear with no end in sight, as well as loads of fancy gatherings celebrating summer fun. So look at this dreamy dress that I came across. I am loving this icy blue color and the styling is my favorite silhouette. So flattering and just luscious looking, don't you think? I love the detailing on these cool earrings. Subtle, yet statement making at the same time. And I actually think these nude leather ankle straps would actually be easy to wear. Do you have a go-see look for dressy outings? ~ Cathy.

Here is Andrea out for dinner with a great friend last night. This photo shows 2 great outfit choices for a warm summer's night. If you prefer dresses then choose a colorful pattern maxi dress & pair with a nice clutch & wedges; if you're more of a pants person you can't beat the look of crisp, fresh white denim with a cute white top. Of course, the best thing you'll be wearing on a night like this is the smile you get from catching up with fabulous friends :)
As much as I have been loving the florals that have dominated lately, I came across this little retro number from ModCloth (possibly the coolest site for budget friendly dresses) and am captivated by the shape and color scheme. So unexpected for summer, which make me love it all the more! And these cage inspired strappy sandals are high, but still wearable. Bring on the weekend! ~ Cathy.
Once the thick of summer kicks in, I typically go on a hunt for a new fragrance. These are the ones that I am most excited to try. I lean toward a more earthy, woodsy scent instead of florals and really love that the 3 that I am posting here are not ones that not the whole world wears. It's nice to have that little mystery, right? Do you have a favorite summer fragrance? ~ Cathy.
You must have noticed that lace appears to be everywhere at the moment. It's a trend that seems to have had a resurgence since that fabulous British Royal wedding dress of Kate's! Lace can look classic & elegant, think Kate Middleton & Grace Kelly, but too much done the wrong way just looks tacky. Here are a few items we like that hit the spot...
I just spied this super cute, flowy sundress. It is cheap and casual and would be one I will throw in a beach bag to change after some outdoors entertainment. If this type of dress makes you feel too exposed on top, then grab a tank (not a camisole as that isn't the most current choice) and do a layered look. Paired with a long necklace and a medium shade of brown sandals this is great to embrace one's inner hippy and enjoy a weekend of fun in the sun! ~ Cathy.
Last Monday we showed how you could take that pair of black pants you own & create different outfits using items you already have in your closet. This week we do the same thing but with a basic black skirt. We use some of the accessories and shoes we used last week. What we also show here is the difference a well fitted skirt makes. In the first picture the skirt is obviously too big but when tailored to fit (or for these pictures 'held in place' to demonstrate!) we show how much better the skirt looks. Yes, getting clothes altered is a slight inconvenience but it is an inexpensive way to make clothes look so much better. ~ Andrea.
